Classic Comics: What is the Multiverse?

What the hell is the Multiverse?

The Multiverse is the theory about parallel universes that all co-exist in the same space and time but with different fequencies.

The Multiverse was created when Krona (Rogue Guardian of the Universe from Green Lantern) attempted to view the big bang. His experiment failed  and resulted with an explosion that created the Multiverse.

With the Multiverse DC heroes are taken from their usual settings and put into strange times and places — some that have existed, and others that can't, couldn't or shouldn't exist. The result is stories that make characters who are as familiar as yesterday seem as fresh as tomorrow.

The foundation of the DC Universe is built around the multiverse. Its like a cheap way of making  "anything" goes. At one point there was an infinite amount of Universes. DC has since then trimmed it down to 52. My favorite is the Super-Obama Universe, not kiddin there really is a universe with a superman who is Obama and hes President. Wow.

Examples of Multiverse Stories:

Most Famous:
Crisis on Infinite Earths (1985)
Infinite Crisis (2005)
Final Crisis (2008)
Earth 2 Crime Syndicate
Kingdom Come ( One of my Favorites)
The Kingdom (Sequel to Kingdom Come)

Various Multiverse Concepts
- Superman given a green lantern power ring
- Superman found by Thomas Wayne instead of the kents thus no Batman
- Batman mastercriminal vs Commissoner Joker
- JLA without Superman (called The Nail)
  • the kents get a flat tire (the nail) and never find superman as a baby

  1. Nice job Ultra! I really enjoyed reading your posting. I agree, Kingdom Come is one of the best DC multi-verse stories.
